It is necessary to follow up with rigid oral hygiene after any oral treatments.  However it is best to employ good oral practices to prevent being infected with gum disease, in the first place.  Nourishing yourself properly by eating a well-balanced meal will keep gum infections at bay.  Also, avoid tobacco products and alcoholic beverages.  You should also steer clear of excessive sweets as these are food for bacteria that would invade your oral cavity.  Always brush, floss and rinse mouth when necessary to keep mouth always clean and maintain the delicate balance of your healthy mouth.
